Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) | San Vicente Palawan Master Plan
Updated: June 2017
The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (commonly referred to as “TIEZA”) is a government corporation under the umbrella of the Department of Tourism (DOT). TIEZA plays a vital role in the implementation of the policies and programs of DOT pertaining to the development, promotion, and supervision of tourism projects in the Philippines.
TIEZA replaced the Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) and is mandated to continue the functions previously exercised by PTA under Presidential Declaration (PD) 564, unless otherwise inconsistent with the provisions of Republic Act (RA) 9593 or “The Tourism Act of 2009” which declares a national policy for tourism as an engine of investment, employment, growth and national development.
It acts as the implementing arm of DOT in providing support infrastructures and facilitating investments in Tourism Enterprise Zones (TEZ) nationwide. TEZs are provided under the above mentioned RA 9593 to established centers of tourism development in the country.
TIEZA is mandated to designate, regulate and supervise the TEZs, as well as develop, manage and supervise tourism infrastructure projects in the country. It is the country’s builder of tourism infrastructures. As such, it is not limited to overseeing and managing TEZs, it also attracts both domestic and foreign investments toward its project TEZs.
Currently, TIEZA has identified five (5) Flagship TEZs:
- Long Beach, San Vicente Palawan
- Rizal Park Complex, Manila
- Mt. Samat Shrine, Bataan
- South Palms, Bohol
- Bucas Grande, Surigao del Norte
Regular TEZs include:
- Ciudad de Victoria, Bulacan
- Bravo Golf Resort, Dumaguete
- Hijo, Davao
- Queen’s Castle, Cebu
- Resorts World, Manila
The first Flagship TEZ identified by TIEZA is San Vicente Palawan which is home to the country’s longest white sand beach – the Long Beach that spans to the coast of four barangays/villages, with approximate stretch of around 14.7 kilometers. As a Flagship TEZ, TIEZA will actively supervise and manage the tourism development in San Vicente Palawan. It engaged the services of Palafox Associates to develop a Conceptual Tourism master Plan for San Vicente and at the same time encourages both domestic foreign investors to the zone.
TIEZA, together with the local government of San Vicente who equally provides unwavering support and tedious works on the project, slowly convert San Vicente Palawan to become one of the top tourist destinations in the country.
